Ocean Swimming Season in Australia is about to Start
It's mid Spring in the Southern Hemisphere and in the land down under, Australians are preparing for a long season of magnificent ocean swims which will be held around the country in ocean, lake and open water venues.
Ocean swimming in Australia is one of the biggest swimming sports with some events attracting over 4,000 participants. Not only are the attendance numbers a testimate to how popular the sport is, the fact that the age ranges from kids to elderly shows that you're never too old or young to participate in this sport.
This month we feature the Express Glass Island Challenge as a sponsored event which is held at Coogee Beach in Sydney's easterb suburbs. The Express Glass Island Challenge is one of the first to kick the season off and will host 2,500 swimmers on the day, with a kids 800m swim, a 1km novice swim and the big swim around the island of 2.4km.
This event is also part of a newly formed swim series named The Sunday Telegraph Ocean Swim Series. The new swim series includes a total of 6 swims over the summer and will feature in most weekend papers. At the end of the season, a male and female series winner will be crowned, winning a healthy little cash prize, a write up in The Telegraph paper and a couple of other bonuses.
Some other events in this months e-news includes the King of the Coast ocean paddle event, the Bottlebutt 100 MTB ride and the Urban Max adventure race.
See below for more information and links to the event websites.
Until next month, happy training and racing.
